When he spoke she smiled in all the right places
In her smile he saw the poison she tasted
She wasn't listening to the sweet words
He wasn't listening to her lying tongue
He was listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Friends told him of her young heart's passion
Down by the sea where the blue waves crashing
She wasn't listening to the sweet words
He wasn't listening to her lying tongue
He was listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Oh curse and bless him with the gabardine which surrounds him
See him writhe at the sight of your eyes which repel him
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
She won't be listening to your sweet words
He won't be listening to your lying tongue
He'll be listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Whoa whoa blue boy
Whoa whoa blue boy
Whoa whoa blue boy
Cheerio, blue boy

That's them, ignore all other versions!
Edwyn? Are you sure? On listening to the original recording, it sounds, perhaps, like the words being sung are as follows (changed lines italicised):

When he spoke she smiled in all the right places
In her smile he saw the poison she'd tasted
He wasn't listening to her sweet words
He wasn't listening to her lying tongue
He was listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Friends told him of her young heart's passion
Down by the sea where the blue waves crashing
He wasn't listening to her sweet words
He wasn't listening to her lying tongue
He was listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Oh curse and bless him with the gabardine which surrounds him
See him writhe at the sight of your eyes which repel
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
He won't be listening to your sweet words
He won't be listening to your lying tongue
He'll be listening to the words being sung
By the blue boy

Whoa whoa blue boy
Whoa whoa blue boy
Whoa whoa blue boy
Cheerio, blue boy
Oh, my gosh- I've been looking all over the internet for these lyrics. Thanks so much for posting them!
Well , there great lyrics and dosent the intro sound like the start of "Bonanza" .......".down by the sea where the blue waves crash in" pure class, cheerio!
Correct..crash in and not crashing...my mistake.
Oooh it's hard this. And Edwyn's aphasia doesn't hep. If asked now he says "something like that!"
Hi Grace, where do you stand on the question of He/She?

I think that the 's' sound at the beginning of the third line may be a near silent contraction of because (or as), or even a sibilant artefact of the recording process. Or perhaps he does sing 'She' in the first chorus?

Having viewed the various online clips of Edwyn performing the song, it certainly sounds (to me) like he's singing 'He'. I do hope so, as I prefer to think of the song as relating to a moment of teenage-angst-abating Catcher in the Rye style clarity, (prompted by witnessing Pete Shelley performing live), rather than, well—if the chorus is 'She' throughout—an ode to a bickering couple who go first to a concert, then to the beach . . . or am I having a Hamish The Tangerine Man moment?
Hi Grace thanks again for the lyrics ,give my regards to Edwyn bye
thanks! Edwyn, " we all know pop is shite and the only artiste worth mentioning is Philip Glass " thanks again man
He had a good chortle at this Dermot. Remembered it well....

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
