Hi all. I've recently converted my OJ vinyl to mp3 and had a couple of questions for the experts. On the 12" of Rip It Up the sleeve credits the a-side as "Rip It Up(Punk Club Version)" and the label has "Rip It Up(Long Version)". It's just under 4 minutes so is shorter than the album version. Any idea which it is? The second question I've just answered myself! On the What Presence?! 12" there's a version of What Presence?! that sounded live but wasn't labelled as such. I've since looked at the label and it credits the recording from the David Jensen radio show.

Also, I'm assuming that the live version of "Poor Old Soul" from the "In A Nutshell" album is the same as the Bridge flexi? I think I've always preferred this version to the original but was always a bit confused as a teenager and expected crowd noise to accompany a live version!

I've added them all to my page so if anyone fancies a listen, enjoy...

Finally, will all of these be available on the box set?

Cheers,

Matt

Wish I could answer any of this stuff, Matt, but I'm just the manager and have always been useless at this kind of detail. I have relied on Edwyn to help me with my false /zero memory syndrome...
Hi Matt,
Glad to hear you got your vinyl converted. I'm looking to put my vinyl on CD, what program did you use?
Yes, I too, am wondering if they are going to be on the box set.

Paul
Hi Paul,

I used an ION USB turntable and Audacity software and I've been impressed with the results. I've just got an ION tape converter too but I don't think I've got anything OJ/Edwyn related on tape unfortunately.

Matt
The box set is comprehensive. Kris Gillespie, of Domino US, has been tireless in hunting down every Orange Juice recording, a difficult undertaking given how slack us lot have been at keeping track of masters etc. It's very satisfying to see the whole lot safely gathered, thanks to Kris's doggedness. I believe it's seven CD's in all. Full information coming in the next couple of weeks.
Wow! As always, Grace, thanks for this info. I can't wait for this to come out - almost literally! Must clear a space for it on the shelf! A new album AND an Orange Juice box set, we're being spoilt!

Matt
Re: the Rip It Up 12". I'm just guessing, but I think the A side is a demo, possibly recorded live (ie in one take) in the studio. So there's no "I invented Acid House, doncha know" Roland bass or synths and sax - but a fascinating halfway house between LPs 1 & 2. Better than the single mix? Maybe...

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
