* BOOTLEGGED SHOW

If anyone can fill in the blanks or add some dates for me then i'd be most grateful!

I also plan to have unofficial bootlegs of OJ and radio-sessions streaming on my site - so far I have both Kid Jensen radio sessions, the John Peel ones, a John Peel session from 1981 with Edwyn having a chat and playing "new single" Poor Old Soul, the Mike Read session, full OJ gig at London Lyceum 1983, the three tracks from Glasgow Pavillion gig given away free on tape with What Presence ?! 7"

I have some tracks from the Stirling University gig and one from a Keele gig - would obviously love to get the rest - I know of a handful of other bootlegs floating about - any details would be great.

I'd also like to investigate on how we'd go about getting all the OJ albums put up on iTunes so peeps can buy em??? It's utterly criminal that they are out of print!!

I just want OJ to have a proper and definitive website - there's precious few things scattered about everywhere on blogs etc and it'd be great to have them in one place :-)

Bob,

I have uploaded a few Orange Juice live shows to Dime a Dozen over recent months, maybe not as early as these shows though. I'll try and upload an early one or two very soon.

Keep tuning into this site in the meantime, you never know, Grace might actually be uploading or making some of these shows available as well !

;¬)
Hi Alan,

many thanks! I'll check them out and also keep tuning in...I want to hear some of the old banter!

Cheers

Bob
Cheers Malcolm, was a pleasure meeting you and very much hope to see you again. I'll hopefully be getting more time to concentrate on finally getting a website together with loads of info on OJ!

Have a blast with Edwyn and the rest at yer next gig!

jamie
Hello.

I have an original gig poster from Nottingham Boat Club 31st March 1981.
I also confess to trying (& failing) to steal the tape of that night's gig from the mixing desk.
I see it's marked as bootlegged. If anyone has a copy I'd like to get hold of one.
I do have the Manchester 1st April 1981 show on cassette - yep, cassette!!
And another show from the same year, somewhere in Scotland as I recall - I don't know the venue.
I think the PA breaks down or something happens to a guitar.
There's a long rant from James (I think it's James) - about Gershwin - amongst other things.

I have no cassette player to listen to them on to refresh my memory.

Somewhere, on a old betamax tape, I have the 5 man line up playing "Falling & Laughing". Again there's the I can't play it issue - even if I could find it............ I don't recall the name of the show.

Steve.
Steve, if somehow there was anyway to post the second show (where the PA breaks down) on the web or for me to be able to hear it, would be a dream come true...or too true to be good (or something)!

Bob
This show was at Valentinos in Edinburgh on the 10th May 1981 (see pics on the main page for poster and ticket for this show).

It was recorded by yours truly and back in the day it was very heavily traded in tape collector circles so theres bound to be loads of copies of it out and about. I still have the master tape in my attic.

I mentioned in other posts that I have sent Grace copies of ALL the live OJ and Edwyn solo recordings I have - however, only today I got the package back through my door un-opened.... some problem with the mail system apparantly. I have let Grace know this has happened and I'll be sending them off again soon.

Included in it is the Valentinos recording (alongside a copy of the Nottingham Boat club show mentioned above). Check out my page on this site, I've uploaded a few live tracks on MP3 and I intend to do more soon. Also for those of you who may have missed it, I uploaded the full Orange Juice Glasgow Tech 17th April 1980 mixing desk recording to Dime-a-dozen a few weeks ago which has been very well received by those who have downloaded it.

Cheers

Alan
Hi Stephen,

TV show was called 'Something Else', I have mentioned this to Grace in a previous thread that it would be a great addition to the up coming boxset.

Edinburgh gig where Edwyn's guitar breaks down and James speaks about Gershwin and Veronica Lake is 10/5/81 at Valentinos. This was recorded by Alan L, see a few replies above. I know he has passed this onto Grace along with his other masters so hopefully they might be released officially some time.

Dave
Hi, this looks like a great start. Feel free to put a link to my Myspace Postcard Records page if you so wish. I have a detailed discography and nice photos on there too.
This looks excellent. Feel free to put a link to my Myspace Postcard Records page if you so wish. I have put a detailed discography and lots of my own photos on there, there's also lots of great links to a lot of the key artists, labels from the time in the friends section - www.myspace.com/postcardrecords
June 24th 1984 Birmingham Odeon... See my ticket on the photos section
I saw them play in my home town at Wolverhampton Lafayette Club, but sorry the date escapes me. Edwyn wore a sailor shirt and his Davy Crockett hat...I may still have a couple of photos I took at the gig. I think this was the second time I saw the OJ's. I seem to recall John Peel announcing on his show on a Friday (was he on Friday's then?) that he was doing a gig at Manchester the next day and among the bands playing would be the OJ's, Josef K and The Fall. I must've made a quick call to a friend or two and on the Saturday morning off we were on the train to Manchester. I seem to recall it was at the Poly, though if so was a different part to where I later saw ACR...or was that the Uni? Anyway, I recall Josef K didn't play and lots of nervous but as always welcome (I hate bands that talk...all except the OJ's that is) banter from Edwyn...maybe someone broke a string. I think both of the shows were 2nd~3rd single era...I know that "Falling and Laughing" was already sold out in shops when I started listening to the OJ's, though my friend had a copy.
The next (and maybe last) time I saw them was I think at Keele Uni with Paul Quinn guesting.
I saw OJ at Hardgate Hall, Clydebank in 1979 - I'm pretty sure it was a football teams xmas disco!!!

I recall a drunk shouting "Gonnae gie's Brown Sugar!" between every song! ha! ha!
