Hi guys

I'm in the middle of collecting all information on Orange Juice via the web and articles etc so I can build a definitive OJ website.

The site will contain biog, discography, lyrics, videos, streaming audio, articles/interviews, reviews AND a definitive list of gigs that OJ played! This has never been done as far as I know and i'd like to have a bash at it!

* BOOTLEGGED SHOW

If anyone can fill in the blanks or add some dates for me then i'd be most grateful!

I also plan to have unofficial bootlegs of OJ and radio-sessions streaming on my site - so far I have both Kid Jensen radio sessions, the John Peel ones, a John Peel session from 1981 with Edwyn having a chat and playing "new single" Poor Old Soul, the Mike Read session, full OJ gig at London Lyceum 1983, the three tracks from Glasgow Pavillion gig given away free on tape with What Presence ?! 7"

I have some tracks from the Stirling University gig and one from a Keele gig - would obviously love to get the rest - I know of a handful of other bootlegs floating about - any details would be great.

I'd also like to investigate on how we'd go about getting all the OJ albums put up on iTunes so peeps can buy em??? It's utterly criminal that they are out of print!!

I just want OJ to have a proper and definitive website - there's precious few things scattered about everywhere on blogs etc and it'd be great to have them in one place :-)

Hello Rich

Orange Juice definitely played Hull Dingwalls. I know because International Rescue supported them.
I did the monitors for OJ and sang and played my Gretsch for IR.
In addition to the bootlegged ones marked - I have recordings of Hackney 6-8-83; Lyceum 31-3-83; Retford 6-3-81; and one marked as Sheffield 1982 but not sure which Sheffield venue it is.
Found a list of bootlegs for OJ on some website, thought it might help or clarify with dates

Hi,

As I've said elsewhere I believe that one of the 1980 or '81 gigs in Nottingham was cancelled. I don't remember the Undertones, so it must have been '81. I don't know if that is true, and I wasn't living in Cambridge at the time, it must have been Oxford. My friend Peter was into an early yuppie phase, me the donkey jacketed, National Health specs type, made famous by Morrissey (how many 'r's and 's's are there there then?). We were both credit crunched in the '80s, so it is nothing new. When we got back to Oxford we stopped off in Headington for fish and chips, and there was Jimmy Hill, chin and all, buying his. He must have just been at the Manor Ground next door (as was, back then), and on his way home.
Well, there is a bit of ephemera - I dare say it won't be on your website! That's how music gets me though, a set of uncollated memories of people, places, times, etc. The "Thirds" album is a vivid document to me of a way I was living once, it made good music to stretch to - now that is a stretch!

Cheers,
Neil.
According to the book The Hacienda Must be Built by Jon Savage, OJ played there on Tuesday, 15th June 1982, the month after its opening party hosted by Bernard Manning!!??
That does make sense date-wise.

I've added it on.

There is an original contract for the Liverpool 1983 gig on ebay this morning
listed here
which says it was 28th March not 27th (or maybe they did two nights?)
I saw them in 1981 at The Olympia in East Kilbride, They were playing The John Peel Roadshow. They headlined and The Recognitions supported. I was there with Mathew Wilcox (Jazzateers) and Douglas McIntyre (Article 58/Flesh/Creeping Bent Reccords) and a young Claire Grogan dressed in crazy alice in wonderland style get up.
woah, thats pretty cool!
i'm young and from East Kilbride, i feel completely isolated! feel like the ONLY Orange Juice fan, say under 30years old!
where abouts in the Olympia was it? which disgusting ''nightclub'' haha?
i know my Dad seen James King and The Lonewolves and others in, i think Crsytals? or Tiffanys?
but i'm surprised to hear OJ graced my towns dirty floors.....
Did you see any other good bands of the same sort in East Kilbride?

The Olympia is now the site of Sainsburys.
God a year later and I reply.soz..just noticed this. The Olympia had a ballroom, many greats played thier over the years. Alex Harvey, Nazareth...not that I saw them I m too young....lol. Cant think of any other cool acts at that time that played EK...however I did promote Mogwai, Idlewild and Sonic Boom some years later in EK. I once played at Peaches with comedian Jerry Sadowitz in the 80s with my first band called Ra Ra Groovy....they were kinda cool.sort of postcard vibe with a funk leaning and a sort of indie fay tartan look ...never released any records though.
The Undertones tour kicked off on Dec 8th and on the morning of the 9th (the day of the Glasgow show) we woke up to the news that John Lennon had been killed. I remember feeling this weird mix of shock and sadness that John Lennon had been gunned down and total nervous excitement (shitting my pants) that we were going to be playing in our home town to such a big crowd. The Undertones played a tribute to John Lennon that night but I can’t remember which song they performed.

How to Write a Book Review?

Composing a book review is not equivalent to composing a book report or a synopsis. A book review is a basic examination of a published work that surveys the work's qualities and shortcomings. An unmistakable commentator can majorly affect a book's gathering. Numerous writers endeavor to have their books assessed by an expert in light…

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.
