Hi guys

I'm in the middle of collecting all information on Orange Juice via the web and articles etc so I can build a definitive OJ website.

The site will contain biog, discography, lyrics, videos, streaming audio, articles/interviews, reviews AND a definitive list of gigs that OJ played! This has never been done as far as I know and i'd like to have a bash at it!

* BOOTLEGGED SHOW

If anyone can fill in the blanks or add some dates for me then i'd be most grateful!

I also plan to have unofficial bootlegs of OJ and radio-sessions streaming on my site - so far I have both Kid Jensen radio sessions, the John Peel ones, a John Peel session from 1981 with Edwyn having a chat and playing "new single" Poor Old Soul, the Mike Read session, full OJ gig at London Lyceum 1983, the three tracks from Glasgow Pavillion gig given away free on tape with What Presence ?! 7"

I have some tracks from the Stirling University gig and one from a Keele gig - would obviously love to get the rest - I know of a handful of other bootlegs floating about - any details would be great.

I'd also like to investigate on how we'd go about getting all the OJ albums put up on iTunes so peeps can buy em??? It's utterly criminal that they are out of print!!

I just want OJ to have a proper and definitive website - there's precious few things scattered about everywhere on blogs etc and it'd be great to have them in one place :-)

Think it may have been due to poor ticket sales Matt. The law of diminishing returns was in force by that time. I'm pretty sure that was what it was (Grace here, by the way).

does anyone have info on the gig that was cancelled at the then lyceum ballroom in london - would have been around 84 or 85 and OJ split up soon after that if i recall, maybe it was later ?. myself and some friends went to london to see the show, we must have been around 17. thrilled to final see them live, but alas it wasnt meant to be. we had to wait a few more years until the hope and despair tour - again i think ? maybe a dont shilly shally tour..., and i think maybe at the town and country club in camden
Ive always wondered if that was the last show that never was ?
The actual reason given by the Promoter's spokesperson was 'Quiff Failure'.

I think I was partially to blame.

Hi Jamie,

I have a recording of OJ at the ICA, if that's any use? If so, please let me know what to do...

Bob
Just found some 1984 OJ tour dates listed in Smash Hits 15-28th March 1984 - most of them aren't on your list

March 23rd Sheffield Uni
March 25th Leeds Polytechnic
March 26th Glasgow Pavilion
March 28th Leicester Polytechnic
March 29th Liverpool Royal Court
March 30th Manchester Hacienda
March 31st Birmingham Polytechnic

Cheers
Can confirm the Roseland gig in Glasgow was on 22. April (1981). Support was The Fire Engines. (I still have the poster).
For reference:

The image below shows some tour dates from late '82:

I have reason to believe that Orange Juice played in my home town of Colchester , I think at essex university, probably in 1984, as a bloke in a pub told me he saw them back in the 'heyday! I don't have any dates...

Also as a side note, does anyone know when and where I don't Care (the rammones cover) was recorded, appearing on The Glasgow School ? Sounds pretty early to me, what with Edwyn doing his best Clash/SP/Buzzcocks impersonation!
i was told that isnt edwyn on vocals?
back in the early nu-sonics days Stephen was on vocals and Edwyn on drums, and its the same on Moscow Olympics were they shout ''Moscow!''

i think? anyone else know?

So March 6th 1982 is the Retford Porterhouse gig which is fairly easily available as a bootleg. I recorded the 1981 gig myself but it has slipped out of my possession in the intervening years. I made a number of copies for friends over the years so there is still the chance that it is out there somewhere.

Is there any sign of the OP launching his site or amending the details in the first post?

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
