Hey folks! my name is Greg, and being 17 I am probably the youngest Edwyn Collins/OJ fan around! People my age generally don't have a clue how much influence their music has had on the current indie…Continue

Hi guys

I stumbled upon this online radio Orange Juice tribute thing - sorry if its been posted on this site before...

http://radio.dublab.com/tags/orange-juice

The link is still active to download

I've no idea who the guy - Alan Kingdom(?) - is but he's obviously a massive fan (full-on geek!) - apparently Edwyn helped himself to the riff from Television's 'Friction' for the intro riff to 'Falling & Laughing' - can you clear that one up Edwyn? ;-)

Anyway there's some cracking rare stuff on this radio thing. Live from Sterling University and Kid Jensen sessions etc as well as a host of tracks that influenced OJ - enjoy

Also a Mike Read session here...

http://fruitierthanthou.blogspot.com/2009/01/orange-juice-mike-read...

I've also managed to acquire a live bootleg of an OJ gig from somewhere in London - apparently dated around 1983 and if i've done my homework right its at the Lyceum on 31st March 83(?) - so minus James Kirk - i'd be more than happy to make you a copy Edwyn if of course you don't already have one tucked away. Your patter with the audience is hilarious! I got it from an ebay seller about 4 years ago and not seen or heard of a copy since.

Keep on keeping on Edwyn!

Wow! Just listening to the Mud In Your Eye version on the Kid Jensen show - sounds amazing and I love the fact that the radio keeps dipping in and out of tune - like it's being transmitted from some far off land!

I wonder if these sessions are still documented somewhere, deep in the Kid Jensen vaults... Be great to get a proper version!
That is weird. I was listening to that last night - found via http://www.flickr.com/groups/sound-of-young-scotland/. (`Fnarf`s ` photo of his great tattoo, checked out his blog, checked out dustysevens blog and bingo!) I haven`t managed to listen to it all yet but what I have sounds great. Coincidently Allan Kingdom has posted some of his stuff on the flickr site.

I`ve got Richard Skinner, Janice Long, Saturday Live with Paul Quinn sessions on tape (home taping is killing music - sorry) plus some other stuff. I seem to have mislaid the session and interview with Kid Jensen where one of my questions got read out. After that interview Edwyn sent me a torn off corner of an accountants letter and wrote`Please buy the single in a chart return store`. I`ve got one of those machines that converts tapes to mp3s or something so I will root out the tapes. Can I put them on here?

Thanks for linking the Mike Read session!
I'm not sure about the whole copyright and legality issues of putting up various mp3s of radio sessions. One thing for sure is that i'd rather they be somewhere fans can listen to than never be heard of again! I had no idea that the Mike Read and Kid Jensen sessions ever existed. I thought the only radio session OJ performed was the John Peel one.

As regards for bootlegs - who actually owns them? - I guess it's up to Edwyn if he wants them on his site somewhere. I find them utterly fascinating and for a fan who was only 2 years old when they were gigging it's the only chance I have of tasting the delights of OJ!
Hi lads
Edwyn's view on bootlegs, live tapes, home taping, so called illegal downloading for the time being, all that, is and always has been, tape away, share it, post it, spread it around. It's usually the only way we ever get to hear all the good stuff from days gone by. So please feel free to post anything you like on here without fear of U2 style retribution. I remember trying to buy a live bootleg for him at Camden Market and the stall holder saying to me, sheepishly, 'Free to the management..' I reassured him that Edwyn didn't mind and we were glad some people got around to doing what we could never get it together to do. Off to have a listen!
Hi All

I have a great gig from stirling uni in 81 and a one from about 80. I couldn't tell you how to put them on here though,Any ideas?

Hi Gary

I'm in the process of building a new OJ website (please see my new post on this messageboard) - and i'm trying to collect all OJ artifacts to stream on this site. If you can help in anyway then drop me a line :-)

Thanks for posting this Jamie. I'd like to add that what I was attempting to do was illustrate that Orange Juice were pulling their influences from a wide variety of sources, not that they ripped off anyone. I may be completely wrong re: Television, but as a guitar player, the two riffs do bear some similarity.
All of those sessions are featured in my dublab show. Feel free to download the MP3, you can easily edit out all my drivel.

I`ve added a radio interview on my page. Don`t know what programme I recorded it from and it seems I was only interested in Postcard Records hence the very rough editing!
Thanks for that Allan and I enjoyed your discussions. I have just been listening to my tapes and the quality is not great. Adds to the charm though, memories of hiding away in my bedroom with the tape recorder on pause hoping to hear your favourite band.
