Caught By The River

Posted on April 22, 2010 at 14:00 2 Comments

Jeff and Robin from Heavenly are behind this beautiful thing full of writing on rivers, fishing, birds, music, anything. A real labour of love. Edwyn is working on their next themed playlist, but here is birdsong 5.

This incredible woman describes so eloquently her experience of a brain haemorrhage. Edwyn has often amazed me with his halting but very moving descriptions of how he felt in the aftermath of his stroke. It intrigues me. Dr Bolte Taylor takes you with her.

Audience loved Edwyn Collins

Published: 22 October, 2009

GLASGOW band The 1990s set the tone with enough chutzpah from Jackie McKeown to own up halfway through You're Supposed To Be My Friend: "I'm just going to tune. It'll be better for you, it'll be better for me!".

And stopping the song dead to do it, the band balanced it against a restart that tripped you straight back into the pleasure.

With echoes of Devo – and even glam rock soaking up through The Box, it… Continue

...I am back for one last time; I promise to get lost after this.

Well I never; my post got picked up all over the place, The Beeb (and thanks to Stuart and Mark on BBC Radio 2 for the support and wisdom) , The Guardian, lots of others. Several US sites where many people offered to support me if I SUED, which is, I suppose, the American way. But I've been down that road before and it's a long and hard one, especially in the US and France. You may have… Continue

....part 2...

Andrew Loog Oldham said that getting ripped off (by the industry) was your entrance fee to the music business of the sixties, so get over it. He’s right and things have not changed. We are very over it, but nonetheless aware of who the biggest bootleggers around are. It’s not the filesharers. Personally, we’ve always loved bootlegs. Even when Edwyn was really skint at the fag end of the eighties, I remember being in Camden market and seeing some tapes of a couple of his… Continue

Hi,
We run a Disability focused festival company called Disability Rocks. We hosted 3 fests this year across the uk and have 6 scheduled in 2015. They are all one day events with audience of around 1500-2000 and with slots no more than 1 hour. Would Edwyn be interested in the tour? My contact is 07540 233412

Hi Grace and Edwyn. This message comes from Christie hospital where I am resident with my 21yr old son.  He's been diagnosed with leukaemia and was only hours from death last Saturday. Thankfully he now appears to be responding but  he has suffered 3 bleeds in his brain resulting in total deafness and disturbance to his balance and coordination. I remember a conversation you and I had about feeling responsible for not protecting your loved ones and feel exactly that myself. If this had been picked up earlier the haemorrhages could have been prevented and he would not be so impaired; I have failed him. My reason for this message is really to say that we are using you and Edwyn as inspiration. If he can achieve so much after significant brain injury then a young very fit man can do so too.  I can't fail him again. Tracey x

I remember sharing a house with you, harry, Jill and myself -colin fraser and it all fell tro bits thro our stupidity, not yours. A long time later, things for me got better and now that im a clean living, productive member of scociety I often wonder how things went for Harry, Jill and some others. Caught bits of you and Edwyns struggles. Life is a bitch sometimes. Be happy if you can. I still have a cut-out for Graeme Kelling somewhere. All the best to you both colinfraser84@yahoo.co.uk

Hello Grace,

Thanks a lot for your kind words on my recent uploads of scanned press articles. There is more to come, just a case of finding the time. But given all the enjoyment that Edwyn's music has given me over the years it feels good being able to give back something in return. And a big thanks for your inspiring book. And that enjoyment continues with 'Losing Sleep', even if I have to continually get back my CD from my 14 year old son !

And if you ever fancy a break in deepest rural SW France there is always a place to stay at ours for you and the family...

Andrew

Hi Grace,

Apologies for reaching out to you through this wall post but I have no idea who Edwyn's booking agent for Asia is.  I run Greenhorn Productions, a concert promotion company based in Singapore.  Artistes we have recently presented include Lloyd Cole, Janis Ian, Death Cab for Cutie, Vampire Weekend, Owen Pallett.  We note Edwyn is in Japan in March 2011?  Please email me at gigs@greenhornproductions.com if there is any interest in a proposal for Singapore.  Thanks.

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
