I just finished reading Falling and Laughing
and I thought it was just the most beautiful, moving book I've read in a long time. Extremely moving with ever being mawkish and an extremely powerful evocation of the power and momentum that love and determination can create.
Congratulations, Grace, on a wonderful, heart-breaking but ultimately redemptive piece of work.
So many connections - I was a teenager in Glagsgow at the time of Postcard Records and always been… Continue

Dear Grace, Edwyn and Band,
It was lovely having you here in Edinburgh today. I am so glad I went to join the event, listen to your story, music and get the book signatured.
I am going to translate the book privately into German and weekly send a chapter to my mother who lives in Germany and suffered a stroke eleven years ago. She's been about your age when it happened and has been similarly affected and since then steadily recovered... I know reading your story will be most… Continue

Hi Edwyn... I've just signed up today so thought I'd drop you a quick note... For many many moons now, you've been a great source of inspiration, happiness, and excitement, not only to myself, but first and foremost to my mother and stepfather, Pauline and Robin... We've listened to your music collectively as a family and had many a great time listening to 'Gorgeous George' (amongst others) whilst driving over the sprawling hills into deepest most gorgeous Donegal on our annual family trips...… Continue

I was moved to make contact after seeing and hearing the film on the radio 4 website. I love Orange Juice, Postcard records....your voice - all seems like yesterday, and hearing the snippet of footage brings memories flooding back. Then we grow older and shit life turbulence follows. Your progression is inspirational; how persistant the creative spirit can be when the body can't cooperate.

Heard the interview this morning and watched it on the web tonight; the improvement, even since Celtic Connections in January, is really startling! Have a great birthday at the week-end!

Having first seen OJ supporting The Undertones on 8th Dec, 1978 at Tiffany's, and having subsequently see Edwyn at the Pavilion and The Garage then, more recently, the emotional homecomings at Oran Mor and ABC, I thoroughly enjoyed "Falling and Laughing", which I read on holiday.....well done, Grace and Edwyn!

Hey there Edwyn,
I have only really got into your music over the past few years...and rate Doctor Syntax as the best $ 2 I have ever spent on an album. (ok so , this was only maybe 80 pence...and it was in the bargin bin at a local store...but still I LOVE IT!)
But was annoyed with myself for actually finding out the correct lyrics to your big hit.."girl like you".
For soooo long i thought you were singing..
Too many buddhist singers
Not enough… Continue

Hi...Hope you are well, I have just read Graces Book and it is an incredible read, both emotional and very powerful. Also went to see your Art Exibition at the CCA in Glasgow in May and was very impressed. I was at the Celtic Connections Gig at the ABC and it was great to see you back at your very best. I still remember the QM gig in 1986 and Renfew Ferry Gig in 1991 when you got your Mum up on stage and sang Rip it up for a very close family friend.
Good luck for the future Edwyn and… Continue

Hi Edwyn and Grace,
I am just back from Piccadilly Waterstone's. I am very much looking forward to getting stuck into the book after the earlier reading and it was wonderful to hear you sing a mix of old and new songs! What a treat!
They say you shouldn't meet your hero's, but i dunno...!!
Wishing you lots of success with the book & looking forward to that Bloomsbury gig!
PS Very nearly walked out of Waterstone's forgetting to pay for… Continue

Funny how some things go hand in hand but I introduced Edwyn's music to my lovely wife Deanna early last year. We went to the Shepherd's Bush gig - will never forget the brilliant music and soulful singing, the emotion, the suit and those yellow shoes. A few days later the best just became better and I became the luckiest man alive when she said 'yes' when I asked her to marry me in the gardens at Wisley!… Continue
