My iPod shuffled me on to the Campaign for Real Rock on the way to work this morning and I remembered what a great, harsh, vitriolic song it was; but who do we think Edwyn is thinking about in this number? He name checks the great Bob Dylan, but surely not him? Could it be someone like the lead singer of the dreadful Levellers? or is it an amalgamation of some of those early 90s, doggy-on-a-string bands?

I think it's about the Grunge invasion in the same way Keep On Burning is about Britpop.
I could be wrong - I'm out of touch with the kids on the street.
I don't think its about a specific artist per se, more about the commercialization of youth culture by the pounds, shillings and pence brigade.

I went to Glastonbury in the early ninties and I had to burrow in like a British prisoner of war in reverse because it had a big metal fence around it. Not exactly Woodstock eh? If you went to Glastonbury this year it would cost you over £200 for a ticket. But hey, they have shopping and spiritual support!

Sadly today's festivals are now completely estranged from their original purpose. It's become the big day out of the summer for the gurning Soho type idiots and gypsy skirt Jemimas to get wasted in a field of utter indignity. No walking home in the dark like Altamont, daddy will pick us up in the Land Rover!

And can you imagine accidentally overhearing Kaiser Chiefs or Scouting For Girls! The detestable summer festival indeed! It's only got worse since the ninties! Detestable might not be strong enough anymore!
