My fave would have to be Mr Bojangles.
Yes, I love that too. Make I and I cry
Yes, Mr. Bojangles is great. It comes close to the Nina Simone version. And The Witch Queen of New Orleans is gorgeous (especially the strings arrangement and the guitars). But my favourite one is Witchcraft. What a sound! And Edwyn's voice in superbe form. The song is - as mostly all of Cy Coleman - great. Does anyone know who is playing on this song - or has Edwyn played all instruments? Hey, I don't know Edwyn's version of Rock'n'Roll I Gave You the Best Years of My Life. Where can I find it?
Well, @Martin, have to confess that I've only ever heart the original!!! And it never was - I fear, and alas - an Edwyn cover - but only by minutes, as I have read that with customary good grace and wit, the OJ's last ever gig, in84 - a miner's strike benefit (remember the Enemy Within? Edwyn was there, right behind em) - was a benefit before an audience of committed agit-poppers.

With still more good grace, Ed I figure thought, well this may be sad for me, and I am aware that the end of the 'Juice is a major loss to tha Game, if only they weren't all watching Simple Minds (or the Smiths, or whatever) - but hey! I can't really mither too much about it when a national primary industry at the centre of millions of people's lives is being taken apart and replaced with, what? call centres? So for final encore, this was the tune he chose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kavwfP9r9ZQ how funny and how very very very cool!

It's a choon in Terry Jacks' hands. Imagine how good it would have been that night ...
I was at that last OJ gig - it was at the Academy in Brixton. Also on the bill were Aztec Camera and Everything But The Girl and it was a great night. I can confirm that Oj did not cover "Rock and roll I gave you the best years of my life" at the gig.

What happened was about a week later the break up was announced and Edwyn gave an interview (I think to NME) where he confirmed it and relayed an entirely made up but beautifully crafted story about announcing the break up on stage, singing that song and having 10,000 fans crying by the end of it. Typical Edwyn irony.

In terms of covers, I once saw a live TV show back in the mid-80s (sorry can't remember the name) where Edywn did a song. He was on acoustic guitar, Zeke was on tamborine and Paul Quinn on vocals and they covered Al Green's "I'm so tired of being alone"

Absolute Bliss.
True History of the Juice! thanks very much for that, Ian. Are you sure there was never a last-days peformance of Edwyn/Zeke band - I think at Lyceum, maybe? - where the miners were the beneficiaries and the Juice got away with Rock'n'Roll I Gave You the best years of my life - which is incidentally a fine tune? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kavwfP9r9ZQ]

Only Grace or our good Lord Edwyn could answer that definitively, I fancy x

Many. many thanks for your memories - Real Talk, as R Kelly would say
Either way, it's a chooglin tale
Okay this is why I love this site.....
Let me settle the hash.
The last OJ gig was a miners benefit for NUM (during the strike) at the Brixton Academy, January 1985 and Aztec Camera, Everything But The Girl and The Woodentops were on the bill. There was a little bit of argy bargy between the managers and agents, not the bands, about running order. The WT's were sort of just starting up so they were happy to be on first. Edwyn decided that OJ would go on first, even though he knew this would be the last show and he would announce it. The upshot was that a lot of people hadn't got there when Oj took the stage at 7.30. He did indeed announce from the stage that this would be the last Orange Juice show. Backstage I had jokingly been singing Rock n Roll I Gave you, especially the "I'd never be a star" bit. He said, write the words from the bit where he goes "she followed me thru London..." to the end. He learned them quick smart, replacing 'she' with 'Zeke.' And after he told the small crowd that OJ had been dropped and that they had decided to call it a day, he sang it, sort of acapella, with the band joining in a bit in the chorus but it all sort of fell apart...
It was kind of over in a moment, people around me were going, "what did he just say?" etc. A girl near me was crying when he sang it. So a bit of confusion and that was it, cheerio. Robin Denselow from The Guardian interviewed him backstage and they ran the story the next Monday.
Was that tedious?
As boring as Boredom itself, our Grace x
And plus, on subject of Terry Jacks, I have to tell you about former Concept Housemate Phil's most inglorious moment in his hospital radio career: the one where he was broadcasting some, what do they call it? - MOR? Lounge? - for the patients whose bedridden condition was for many years a key trampoline upon which aspiring Radios 1 and 2 DJs could bounce around, refining their "patter"/what the Hairy Cornflake would describe as "communication skills" (No Zeds in that spelling!).

Anyway, Ph*l (name adjusted to disguise the guilty) was working on his radiophonic bedside manner one afternoon at the Royal Free when inspiration struck, and he thought of playing Seasons in the Sun.

"This one's going out to everyone in Intensive Care! Let me know your Last Requests and I'll do my Bests!" Be fair, Lindo, he didn't quite say that: can't remember Xact words. Here be tune w lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYsrKDSKzWg

Composing a book review is not equivalent to composing a book report or a synopsis. A book review is a basic examination of a published work that surveys the work's qualities and shortcomings. An unmistakable commentator can majorly affect a book's gathering. Numerous writers endeavor to have their books assessed by an expert in light…

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.
