Very much enjoyed seeing Edwyn, Grace & the band at the historic Maida Vale studios this afternoon. Apart from being stiflingly hot, it was an absolute joy seeing Edwyn sing, chat and laugh. Lovely to see Grace & Edwyn's banter. Very talented lads in the band as well including some smoking acoustic guitar solos - almost got the sprinklers working. Mind you, a nice sprinkling of water would have been quite refreshing!

Looking forward to hearing the programmes when they're broadcast in the Autumn.

Didn't get round to submitting a question to the producers, which was a shame as I would have liked to ask Edwyn about his drawing. Also, what on earth he was thinking of with his Japanese army officer (jodphurs & all!) outfit at an Orange Juice gig at Portsmouth Poly in the mid 80s. Must have been between 84 & 88 when I was down there and I remember someone saying that it was one of OJ's last ever gigs - I'm sure someone will know.

One supplementary - we saw Edwyn in London (Shepherd's Bush Empire?) in early November 1995. It was the week before our wedding & the support (can't remember who they were) were so loud that I was deaf as a post for most of the next week & was paranoid that I'd be deaf for the wedding ... 'Do you take this woman.....? .... Pardon?'.

I was also at Maida Vale - what a wonderful evening it was. Touching, lyrical, and often extremely funny, and warmth absolutely radiating from the audience.

One of the most moving things I think I've ever seen was Grace kneeling by the side of the stage for the last couple of songs, gazing at the performance, enraptured and beaming. And some great backwards and forwards between her and Edwyn during the interview. Ever watchful, she was always there to clarify what Edwyn was saying or adding her own perspective.

It was a real privilege to see Edwyn playing guitar with Grace and Carwyn providing the strum - and he even started composing a new tune!

He was very funny about the angry person he was when he wrote Campaign for Real Rock - he's much mellower now. But Grace said he's getting more acerbic again as his recovery continues!

Hi Edwyn & Grace, both your energy & positiveness was very inspirational. Keep up the great music. As a massive Northern Soul fan for over 30 yrs both you & Vic have an amazing knack to creating great soul tracks and yes End of The Surrey People is one of the great albums !!  all the best, Steve

It was a special night indeed, very thrilling and being the NBC at maida vale had a very proper feel to it all. It was a very uplifting evening, and the songs sounded so special. Edwyn's and grace's insight into their life and the stories behind the songs were facinating and quite moving at times.
I took my wife to the union Chappell for the georgeous George tour gig and Edwyn Mae on stage with Bernard butler who had just left suede and they played for about half an hour then the rest of the band joined Edwyn for a draw dropping set. Fast forward 20+ (and a good few ec gigs in between) years and we're back there and the show is jaw droppingly good and I few more orange juice songs in the set too.
Cheers Edwyn -keep on burning

Ps can you play poor old soul (pt 2) next time you gig please it's such a top song and I thought you were going to do as the encore at maida vale.
Cheers -tim
Ps regarding the above reply I mean the bbc not NBC and my spelling is shite too!!!!!! But you get the gist of it I hop.

I take it everyone knows the broadcasts are next week? 2nd and 3rd December, and some audio already up on the BBC website.

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
