I have recently been putting together guitar chords and lyrics for Orange Juice's Albums (You can't hide your love, Rip it up, The Orange Juice and Texas Fever) with the intention (and with Edwyn's permission) of putting it up on the web somewhere someplace sometime. After 25 years though, there are still some lyrics to Punch Drunk that I can't figure out. Can anybody help me? Is there anyone out there interested in playing the songs who hasn't already figured them out for themselves?

Trying to put the songs down on paper was a real labour of love as they were my chief inspiration as a teenager struggling to learn guitar.

Attached is a sample of what I've done. I'd estimate that I'm about 90-95% finished with the basic chords and maybe I'll think about trying to tab some of those beautiful lead lines.

Constructive comments would be much appreciated.

This is excellent Gary. I look forward to seeing some more songs soon. I can play a bit but find it hard to work out chords, especially on Orange Juice songs for some reason. Someone did this on the Ron Sexsmith website for a couple of his albums which seemed to prove popular and I can now play most of his stuff.

Keep up the good work !!
Here's the full document as it stands. It's a work in progress and I hope any errors/rubbish bits don't get laughed at too hard. I'm adding to it all the time.
this is quality, thanks Gary.
Mark
Thanks Mark, glad you like it. Best wishes,
Gary.
A few corrections and some more chords.

Hi Gary,
Thanks a lot. I have scoured the internet for OJ tabs and got nowhere. I have been trying to work some out with my guitar teacher, but only managed one or two. I look forward to trying out some of your versions for size. Any of the professional guitarists on here fancy feeding back any corrections to Gary?
Best wishes
Ian
Thanks for doing this Gary, you've put in a lot of work.
I'm a beginner on the guitar but I'm going to have a go at
some of the easier ones right now.

Fantastic stuff, keep it up!
Hi Matt, Do the chords work for you? One of the difficulties I had was that the pitch of the is records sometimes seems different to standard guitar tuning in concert pitch and the chords, as I've put them down, might not correspond exactly to what you hear on the record if you are playing along. Untitled melody is one in particular that springs to mind and I've suggested a capo with those shapes.

Best wishes,

Gary
I've had a wee go at Falling and laughing and Rip it up and they both sound good.
Well, as good as they can when I'm playing the guitar.....
Would you recommend any others that are easy to play for a novice?

All the best
Matt
Oh my God! You're a hero mate! I've been looking for something like this for ages!

You have inspired me! I feel like getting out all the EC solo albums and having a go at tabbing those as well!

Nice one!

K
Thanks Kirky,

If you want to share the work on the solo albums I'm up for that.

This website has a really useful app which gives names of chords if you can work out the fingering... I've found it really useful so far.

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
