.... I bought the "Poor Boy" single that just came out then. It must have been the only one in Switzerland. I liked it a lot so from then on I bought all the Orange Juice singles and LPs (the happy dolphin is still my favourite cover - I put it in a frame).
Then - I think it was in 1987 - you, Edwyn, finally made it to Switzerland for a concert in Schaffhausen. You probably won't remember it as the venue was small (the Domino) and there were not more than 30 people there. But I loved it. And in the break I had a drink with you at the bar and I asked you to play "The coffeetable song" which at that time was my favourite song. But you said sorry, not possible as it is based on a drum computer. And after the concert you invited me and my wife to a drink at the hotel Bahnhof which was very nice of course but I refused because it was late and I had to get up extremely early. Up to this day I still hate myself for that... mainly because I fear that you won't play in Switzerland ever again (I hope I'm wrong....)
And I kept on buying all your music and I still listen to it a lot. Being an english teacher I even translated one of the songs with my students ("It's right in front of you" - I love it!).
And now I just read Grace's book and was very touched by it.

Whatever your output will be I will follow you. I hope there will be still a lot.
So I just like to say thank you for all.
Lots of love
Andy

Dear Andy
english for the non-german speaking people here, a few seconds ago I posted the article. I think Out For The Count from the last Orange Juice album is a fantastic song. And the b-side version is as good as a b-side can be. It's part jam part song (some people would say experimental), and I believe that a band should expand their sounds and song ideas on the b-sides, that makes this songs so special. Someone should start a blog about b-sides ...
Cheers, Martin

Dear Martin
I read your "article" in the Tages-Anzeiger" the other day. Great to see Edwyn in my favourite Swiss paper. And very surprising! I should write to you in german as we're living only a few kilometres apart but that wouldn't be polite to the other bloggers. But why don't you put that article on this website.
An odd choice, too, as "Out for the count" is a somehow strange piece of music... But I like it.
Cheers an prost
Andy

Andy, Edwyn played 1992 in Zurich at the Rote Fabrik. I don't remember the date, but I was playing with my band The Libertynes as a supporting act. Of course it was a great evening - personally and musically speaking. I think Grace might remember the show ...

Simon, I don't know the answers to your questions. Except to the last one: To my knowledge, Edwyn didn't play in Switzerland ever since. Edwyn is not well known in this country. Whenever I mention him (or Orange Juice) the answer is: Never heard of him. Which for me is impossible to understand...

Andy, thanks for sharing your lovely story.
The question is why was Edwyn playing in Switzerland in 1987.
Where else did he play?
Grace has publically stated that this period of Edwyn's career was a financially difficult one for them.
I wonder if the trip was financially successful?
Did he not play in Switzerland after the success of Girl Like You?

Art Work and Bum Fuzz

Posted by scott owen on May 5, 2017 at 17:15 0 Comments

My Bum Fuzz unit just arrived in California along with some plectrums with Edwin art. It took me along time to order this unit, but the twenty five year gestation period for it to be built surely eclipses my lack of urgency. Best regards all...

Thank you for the music

A while back I asked Edwyn if he would let me use his music on a little film I made.  Here is the result: Mill Mechanics

Thanks for that.

Shareefa Energy – ‘Reasoning With Self’ - Review

A few months ago the BBC offered a profile of new emerging female poets, ‘Women Who Spit’. Watching the short films by Jemima Foxtrot, Cecilia Knapp and Deanna Rodger, I noted with great relief that the art of poetry is alive and well. I have always been fascinated by the medium. The ability to express intricate thoughts and feelings in a few lines of words. It is the most empowering process. And empowerment through self-expression… Continue

Dear Edwyn,

Can I just thank you for your contribution to my life. From that very first shiver I got listening to Felicity on the John Peel Show to the smile I still express today when you burst into laughter half way through Consolation Prize, it's important I let you know how much your music means to me before one of us croaks it.

I was hooked instantly and bought all the singles and albums, the ten inches, 12 inches and even ripped the flexi discs off Smash Hits and Melody…
