To: Grace Maxwell & Edwyn Collins.
We are REALLY grateful to you both for your book – Falling & Laughing. Almost exactly a year ago my wife Jean fell down the stairs in our home on the left side of her head in March 2009. She suffered a fractured skull and a critical brain injury. A month ago she had a large titanium plate inserted. Why is there such an amazing improvement? Perhaps it is the more normal shape to her head; perhaps it is the greatly improved protection for her brain; perhaps it is the metal plate which now reduces pressure and increases the required blood flow; perhaps ...?
Anybody who has seen Jean only a little while ago will now notice a remarkable improvement today. The operation has definitely had a superb effect on Jean. She speaks even more, but far clearer and with a real sense of purpose and awareness plus amazing stamina. She has a lot more actions, including all her right side.
Grace’s description of Edwyn’s restoration is very similar, in many ways, to that experienced by us. We realize that there are very important lessons we can learn from these terrible times.
Headway is the charity that has supported us and other people with a brain injury and especially those who care for them. Grace & Edwyn, do you have more advice now?
Thanks again and all the best with continuing recovery from Jean & Neil.
